Data de-duplication offers the ability to discover and remove redundant data from within a data set. Data de-duplication is fundamental to improving information protection, streamlining backup operation, reducing backup infrastructure.

Reduce the bandwidth while transferring the data: de-duplication reduces the amount of images from backup. So there is very minimal data have to transfer, it helps to reduce the bandwidth.

Improved data protection: many organization does daily/weekly full backup. Data de-duplication reduces storage capacity requirement, which allow more aggressive backup policy with improve restore times.

Saving storage: by eliminating redundant data from the backup, it requires lower infrastructure to store the images. Smaller capacity requirement is directly proportional to power consumption and cooling cost.

Longer retention: because of data de-duplication reduces the size to daily backup, so user also can extend the retention policy.
